June is dairy month, so it is time to thank the dairy farmers in our area. Dairy farmers supply us with milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, butter and a rich variety of ingredients for our health. Not only do they provide us with delicious and nutritious treats, but dairy farmers in Minnesota have an annual output value of $4.6 billion, and create nearly 40,000 jobs in the state of Minnesota. There are 101 cows on the average dairy farm and dairy is 24 percent of the state’s total livestock receipts.

Hats off to the Kenyon Park and Recreation Committee for sponsoring the great “Music in the Park” on Sunday, June 20! The weather was great; and the performers, Sam Daly, Deb Sibley and Will Burleigh were thoroughly entertaining!

Attention Goodhue County residents
Recently I discovered some critical information regarding these tax credits that shatters the illusion our county will reap huge financial benefits from wind energy.

By now you have seen the “Cancer Daffodils” in various business places for you to purchase and enjoy. This is a major fundraiser for the American Cancer Society which is involved in keeping us educated about warning signs and promoting research. We have two major sites for this research — Mayo Clinic and the University of Minnesota. Many of us have benefited from their work in that we are survivors. I’m sure most of our Leader readers know someone who has had (or has) cancer and also of those who have died from this brutal disease.

Accusations about schools and tests are inaccurate
In last week’s paper, Ms. Wrolstad should have noted that the expenditures the School Board made were from the Capital fund. Those monies can only be spent on capital items and cannot be used for teacher salaries.
