Weather being kind to most crops
Knee-high by the Fourth of July was hardly a concern this year as corn crops and the like continue to grow at record rates in a near-perfect planting season.
Minnesota leads the nation for field corn condition, with 90 percent of the state’s crop considered in good or excellent condition, according to a report released this week by the United States Department of Agriculture. Field corn is largely used for livestock feed.

Rose Fest medallion found, but not really
Four people on Thursday were duped into thinking they had found the Rose Fest medallion. The group, including Heather Sibley, J.J. Aakre, B.Z. Aakre and Justin Nesseth thought they had found the medallion in Depot Park and brought it to the Leader office to collect their $50 prize.
