Knee-high by the Fourth of July was hardly a concern this year as corn crops and the like continue to grow at record rates in a near-perfect planting season.

Minnesota leads the nation for field corn condition, with 90 percent of the state’s crop considered in good or excellent condition, according to a report released this week by the United States Department of Agriculture. Field corn is largely used for livestock feed.
